Vienna. Itinerary day 1

We arrived to Vienna airport in the afternoon and, after picking the luggage, we took the CAT (City Airport Train) which left us very close to the hotel where we stayed, near Stadtpark Park. After doing the check-in at the hotel and resting a bit in our room, we decided to spend our first afternoon walking aimlessly, just to have a first contact with the city.

Palazzo Ducale25 Jun 2015

Palazzo Ducale

Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) is another must-see visit for the lovers of art, gothic architecture and Venetian painting from XVI to XVIII centuries. It’s located in St. Mark Square, by the basilica, and it even shares some of its walls with the temple. The structure, form and size of the building shocked us more than the inside of the palace itself.

St. Mark’s Basilica

St. Mark’s Basilica is one of the must-see visits in Venice. It’s in the square of the same name and it’s probably the most spectacular building in the entire city. St. Mark Square

We spent our first day in Piazza San Marco (St. Mark Square) and its surroundings. It’s the most touristic and well known area of the city, and a must visit place, as well. You’ll have to deal with thousands of tourists at every single hour of the day, but it’s totally worth seeing. It attracts so many tourists that we even saw a banner with this slogan: “Venice is not only St. Mark Square”. And

Bern, capitol of Bernese Oberland

Another road trip took us to Bern, the capitol city of Bernese Oberland (Bernese Highlands), and also capitol of Switzerland. The old town is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. We didn’t walk much time because of the bad weather. We walked around the main streets of the old town and the cathedral, the Parliament square and Einstein’s house. But we wished we could have more time to know the city better.

Walking in Lucerne

In the afternoon, after visiting Aare Gorge, we went to Lucerne to walk in the old town and to visit its two famous wooden bridges. The weather wasn’t good and it rained from time to time, which spoiled a bit our promenade. We wished to stay longer in this city, but we had to come back to Interlaken.
